MODULE 2:2 - Fitting your Short Sleeve Bodice Toile

Now that your've sewn your Short Sleeve Bodice Toile it is now time for the fitting.  It should be relatively easy compared with your Sleeveless Bodice Toile.  You virtually done all the fitting and alterations.

What we will now be looking at is how the sleeve fits on your arms and shoulder and also that you have enough room for movement in the sleeve.

So, let's get going.

What You'll Achieve in this Module

  • How to fit your Short Sleeve Bodice Toile.
  • Deciding what problems need to be fixed.
  • Learning how to fix them.

1.  You shouldn't really have any Gaping Front and Back neckline as the sleeve will drag that area flat.

2.  Start by pinning the CB at the seam line.  (you'll need someone to do that for you.

3.  Now take a good look at the front, side and back bodice and see if there is anything that needs to be altered.

4.  Now do the Across Back Test.  Pull your arms to the front to see if it feels too tight, OK or just right.

I'm happy with mine even though it is slightly tight.

This is what I'll do for my Toile above:
  • make the shoulder line bigger by 6mm/1/2".  The sleeve will sit a lot better on my arm and not pull up and make the sleeve level (this can be seen on the back photo).
  • do a sway back alteration at the back.

And that's it.  Super simple compared to Module 1.

Problems you might have with your Toile

If you've made your Sleeveless Bodice Toile to fit you shouldn't really have any major problems with the Sleeved Toile.  The only problem that you may have is whether the sleeve is going to fit the armhole.

My lovely tester, Abbie, has her Sleeved Toile below and I've shown her how to correct the fit of the sleeve.

This is the fit of Abbie's Toile.
  • It's not too bad  in the bodice fit but it need the armhole goes over the shoulder point.
  • It also needs a slight Gaping Front Neck alteration.

That's it!  Module 2:3 you'll transfer your alterations to your pattern pieces.
