The Molly Skirt is a very easy pattern to grade as it's really on the width of the waist and the hem that needs to get bigger and, of course, the waistband and the ties.
The pattern is in Sizes 2 - 10 but because it's a skirt it could be graded up to a Size 14. I would only grade skirts up to teen sizes as the only real contact with the body is the waist and it is a simple grade.
Below, I will show you how to grade the Molly Skirt to a Size 14.
What you'll achieve in this Module
you'll learn how to grade the front and back skirt, waistband and sash up to a Size 14
Grade the Front Skirt to Sizes 11-14
1. Start with your nested Front skirt pattern - Sizes 2 - 10
2. Rule lines out from:
A - waist/side seam point
B - side seam/hem point
3. Measure out the same amount the previous sizes increase. eg. if previous sizes increase 6mm | 1/4" then measure out the same amount.
4. Connect A and B. This is now your Size 11 Front skirt pattern. Adjust the skirt length accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: If you want to grade from a Size 10 to a Size 14, or any size in between, use the spreadsheet below. This will save you grading one size at a time.
Grade the Back Skirt to Sizes 11 - 14
1. Start with the nested Back skirt pattern.
2. Rule lines out from:
A - elastic casing/side seam point
B - waist/side seam point *
C - side seam/hem point
* rule out at a 90 angle to the CB line.
3. Measure out the same amount the previous sizes increase. eg. if previous sizes increase 6mm | 1/4" then measure out the same amount.
4. Now connect these points. This will be your new Size 11 back skirt pattern. Adjust the skirt length accordingly.
PLEASE NOTE: If you want to grade from a Size 10 to a Size 14, or any size in between, use the spreadsheet below. This will save you grading one size at a time.
Grade the Front Waistband to Sizes 11 - 14
1. Start with the nested waistband pattern - Sizes 2 - 10.
2. Rule lines from:
A - waistband edge points
B - waistband edge points
3. Measure out the same amount as the previous sizes increase. eg. if the previous sizes increased by 6mm | 1/4" then measure the same amount out and mark.
4. Now connect these points. This becomes your new Size 11 Waistband pattern.
PLEASE NOTE: If you want to grade from a Size 10 to a Size 14, or any size in between, use the spreadsheet below. This will save you grading one size at a time.
