MODULE 4 - Grading the 'Molly Skirt' to Size 1

What You'll Achieve in this Module

  • You'll learn how to grade the Molly Skirt front, back skirt, waistband and ties to a Size 1

Grade the Front Skirt to Size 1

1.  Start with the nested Front skirt.
2.  Use only the Size 2 skirt pattern - smallest skirt.
4.  Now connect these 2 points.  This becomes the new Size 1 front skirt pattern.

Adjust the skirt length accordingly.

Grade the Back Skirt to Size 1

1.  Start with the nested back skirt pattern.
2.  You will be using Size 2 pattern.  

Rule a line for the waist/side seam point.  Draw the line at 90 degree angle to the centre back line.
3.  Measure in the same amount that the other sizes increase at the side seams.  eg.  If the other sizes increase by 6mm | 1/4" then measure the same amount in from Size 2 to make the Size 1 pattern.
4.  Now connect these points.  This becomes the new Size 1 back skirt pattern.


Adjust the skirt length accordingly.

Grade the Front Waistband to Size 1

1.  Start with the nested front waistband pattern.
2.  Using the Size 2 pattern only measure in on both ends the same amount as the other sizes have been increased.  eg. If the other sizes measure 6mm | 1/4" then measure in on each end the same amount.
3.  Connect these points.  This becomes the new Size 1 waistband pattern.

Grade the Ties to Size 1

1.  Start with the nested Tie pattern.
2.  Using the Size 2 pattern only.
3.  Mark in the same amount as the other sizes have increased. 
4.  Now connect Point A to Point B.
