I was 10 years old when I made my first dress for myself!
I had been making dolls clothes from the age of 7 on my little toy sewing machine and mum thought it was time for me to upgrade to her big electric Singer sewing machine. I would even put the dolls clothes patterns into little envelopes made from newspaper and properly labelled.
And I've been sewing and pattern making for myself and others ever since.
Hi, my name is Ann Martin and I'm the owner/designer of the 1 Puddle Lane Pattern Studio and also Audrey Lane - where I make elegant Ladies 50's inspired Tea Dresses.
I've worked in the fashion industry for the past 30 years doing various jobs as Pattern Maker/Fabric cutter to Production Manager for a small t-shirt company. While my children were growing up I ran a small business from home making Custom Made outfits for a large clientele of gorgeous ladies and also designed a Resort wear range for women and children. It all proved to be a very exciting and satisfying career...... I don't think I'll ever tire of it!
And I've been sewing and pattern making for myself and others ever since.
